We usually think of Florence as a city of art, but in the next few days it is going to turn into the city of wine!
On Friday, May 17 and Saturday, May 18, from 3 to 11pm, Florence will be hosting the 4th edition of WineTown, a manifestation focused on excellent, high quality wines and great food, along with cultural and musical events taking place over the historical center in piazzas and historical palazzos.
WineTown has become one of the most awaited food and wine events in Florence, one that wine aficionados and lovers of great food cannot miss.
Taking part of the event are important historical brands such as Antinori, the Consortium of Chianti Classico and Chianti Ruffino but also small producers of high quality labels.
Central to the event are the wine tastings at each of the producers stands – and even though they are not free, they are easy to pay for with the purchase of the Wine Card, a rechargeable card that the first time costs 15€ for 5 wine tastings.
For real wine lovers, there will also be guided itineraries and seminars you can attend (booking required). You can find more details here: http://www.winetown.it/percorsi-guidati/
During the two days of Wine Town, twelve large historical palaces in the center will open their courtyards and gardens to host the wine tasting stands and the most important cultural and musical events of the fair.
The historical center has been divided into three areas for events: the Oltrarno, Piazza della Signoria and via del Proconsolo.
Concerts and theatrical shows will be hosted in Palazzo Pitti, the Bargello museum, the Loggia del Grano, on via Tornabuoni, via del Proconsolo and in the Oltrarno.
You can view the map of the areas for Wine Town 2013 here: http://www.winetown.it/dove/
You can find complete details on all of the events planned for Wine Town on the official website: http://www.winetown.it/
and can follow the events on their Facebook page and on Twitter.
So Friday May 17 and Saturday the 18th, everybody meet downtown with a wine glass in hand to toast Florence and Wine Town!
