On 10-10-10 the Italian Touring Club has organized a special event for Orange Flag Destinations in Italy. The Orange Flag is a distinction given to small Italian municipalities that stand out for their excellence in hospitality, rewarding their efforts in promoting high-quality and eco-friendly tourism and hospitality.
Tuscany has the largest number of orange flagged destinations in Italy with a total of 32 across the region. On Sunday, October 10 some of these destinations will celebrate the Touring Day with free guided tours, extraordinary openings of museums and monuments, art and craft markets, tastings of local products and lots of entertainments. All events are free but the guided tours require reservation so call and book your spot today!
Here some of the most interesting events and guided tours on the program:
In Chianti:
In Barberino Val D’Elsa the “Sagra della Stiaccia” will be taking place, a festival dedicated to schiacciata, the typical Florentine bread, together with many stands offering arts and crafts and local food products. There will also be free guided tours to the beautiful surroundings of Barberino, including to Sant’Appiano.
In Castelnuovo Berardenga, there will be two guided tours to the surroundings and to the historical center, including the museums.
Certaldo will be animated by the Boccaccesca, a typical food festival celebrating local tastes and flavors, and for the event will also be offering free guided visits to the historical center and its museums.
Maremma:
Pitigliano and Sorano are both organizing guided tours to their historical centers, the Etruscan and tuff areas while visitors to Sorano will be able to enter the exhibit on Joan Mirò for free.
These are just some of the locations and events organized on this special day. I recommend you take a look at the official calendar of the Touring Day in Tuscany, even though it’s in Italian. Remember, reservation for the guided tours is required so book today!
