Here we are. The countdown for toasting the new year, 2011, has started. Florence has prepared several events for all those wishing to celebrate in the city’s main squares. These are the main events and squares:
Piazza Santa Maria Novella:
In front of the Santa Maria Novella train station will be the main concert of the Italian band Elio e Le Storie Tese which will start around 11.45 pm. Before, at 9.15pm, there will be two Florentine bands, Ganzi and Hacienda. Then from 1.45 am there will be a DJ set with Lorelei, Pulse and Gianpaolo D’Amico.
Largo Annigoni – Piazza Santissima Annunziata:
In the large square in front of Sant’Ambrogio market the show will start with RDF radio DJs and will continue with 70s music with the renowned Forever 7eventy band.
In Piazza Santissima Annunziata around 10 pm there will be a gospel concert with over 110 voices of the Pastor Ron Gospel Show directed by Ronald Ixaac Hubbard.
Piazza della Repubblica – Piazza della Signoria:
Piazza della Repubblica will be animated by jazz and folk music. The concerts will start around 9 pm with Camillocromo band and from midnight with Funk Off band, a funky dancing marching band.
For classical music lovers in Piazza della Signoria there will be a concert from 11pm by the National Orchestra from Moldavia directed by Giuseppe Lanzetta.
All concerts are free, so just take with you two goblets and a good bottle of champagne for toasting 2011 in Florence.
In Siena, enjoy free live music in the beautiful Piazza del Campo. Performers include Italian pop music greats such as Paolo Belli and the Big Band, as well as the Tuscan-born singer Irene Grandi and Giusy Ferreri.
In Arezzo at the “Fiere e Convegni” the celebrations start at 9:30pm. You do have to pay for the entrance ticket, but there are 4 stages with over 40 artists playing rock music, a DJ house set, Latin American music on another and the Radio Station 105 at the last one.
