Special opening hours and entrance fees for the museums in Florence and Tuscany in honor of the Festa dei Musei on the 2nd & 3rd of July.
A combination of the celebrated 1st weekend of the month (free entrance on Sunday July 3) and the first ever Festa dei Musei (with extended hours on Saturday July 2), gives everyone (adults and children alike) a fantastic opportunity to explore the vast collection hidden behind the walls of the many museums that dot Florence, Tuscany and all of Italy.

Saturday July 2, There will be normal opening hours and entrance fees during the course of the day and in the evening there will be extra hours (7pm – 10pm) with the symbolic cost of 1 Euro. Check this link for a complete list of all participating museums in Florence & Tuscany
Sunday July 3, There will be normal hours however, since this is the first Sunday of the month, there will be free entrance for everyone. Here is a list of those that participate in Florence and another list of those that participate in Tuscany.
The theme is “Museums and the Cultural Landscapes,” reminding viewers that some pieces of artwork highlight an element that we can not easily give a value too – it is immaterial. In addition, to opening gardens and special areas featuring the green beauty of Italy, there will be some other firsts!
For the first time ever not only will there be a collection of public and private museums participating but, they will be organizing events on a timetable that is user friendly. This means dividing events into morning for the kids, afternoon for the curious and in the evening for those who like a bit of glamour!
On Saturday, those looking for events for the kids should look at going to the Uffizi between the hours of 9 am and 2 pm when they will be distributing activity books in Italian & English and they have created suggested itinerary where flowers are the theme. Whereas from 7 pm to 11 pm there will several activities under the title “Lo spettacolo della cultura” (“Showtime for Culture”) for example, a concert and happy hour at Villa Medicea della Petraia on Sunday.
The MAF or Archeologico Museum will not be featuring evening hours – but they will be open until 6 pm on Saturday July 2. There will be a special opening of the botanical gardens within the museum (Piazza Santissima Annunziata, 9b, 50121) including a guided tour of the flowers.
Both Palazzo Davanzati and Museum of the Casa Fiorentina Antica will be open the extra hours from 4 pm to 8 pm on the 2nd of July. The Museum of Casa Martelli will have special hours both on the 2nd of July and the 3rd of July from 4 pm to 8 pm.
