Wine and excellent food continue as the main protagonists in events this weekend as they move from Florence, where Wine Town 2013 just took place, to Chianti with two wine and food manifestations.
La Mostra del Chianti
Centered in the small town of Montespertoli, the 56th edition of the “Mostra del Chianti” will start this Saturday May 26 and continue for over a week until June 2. The wine event includes conferences, wine tastings and shows that are just the side dish to the main course: Chianti wine produced in this area.
The most important wine producers in the area will be present in the main square of Montespertoli, Piazza Machiavelli, in stands to present their labels to the public.
The program for the 9 days of the Mostra del Chianti is full of various types of entertainment and events, concentrated overall on the last two days of the manifestation while the stands will be open every day but with different times each day.
These are the hours for the fair:
Saturday May 25 and June 1: 6pm to 1am
Sunday May 26 and June 2: 10:00am-12 midnight
Friday May 31: 6pm to 2am
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: 6pm-12 midnight

Chianti Classico è
At the same time, from May 24 to June 2, anywhere you head in Chianti you’ll end up seeing events tied to the “Chianti Classico è” manifestation. Wine and food lovers will be able to enjoy special events tied to wine and food, plus seminars, tastings, excursions and more tied specifically to the Chianti Classico wines and to the entire area.
The producers that are part of the Chianti Classico Consortium are opening up their doors for winery tours, tastings, cooking classes and much more. Many events require bookings, so check out the program and decide what you’d like to participate so that you can contact the wineries directly.
The events open to everyone taking place in the towns in Chianti are concentrated on May 24-26 and May 31-June 2: the towns participating are San Casciano Val di Pesa, Radda, Gaiole and Greve in Chianti.
For this first weekend, May 24-26, the event you should not miss is in San Casciano Val di Pesa’s Piazza della Repubblica Gardens called “The Black Rooster & Street Food” which combines Italy’s finest street food, Chianti Classico, music and shows and events targeted for kids (so that the entire family can head out and participate). You can check out the program from the Chianti Classico consortium site here.
So keep on enjoying great food and wine in Chianti!
